Several types of tool coatings commonly used in milling cutter today

September 23,2023

If we talk about tool coating, most users may ask what is tool coating? In fact, tool coating is to coat the tool with a film of black, gray, bronze, blue and other colors. The composition of this film is different, which can greatly enhance the hardness of the tool surface, making the tool life longer and processing higher hardness materials.

So what are the main ingredients of the coating that OBT has?

DLC coating is suitable for processing materials that are easy to stick to chips, such as copper and aluminum. The coating is black. The friction coefficient is 0.15 and the chip removal performance is very good.

TiAlN coating is suitable for processing workpieces with a hardness below HRC50, and has strong general performance.

AlCrN coating is suitable for finishing milling operations and is black. It can withstand high temperatures up to 900 degrees and has a Victoria hardness up to 3600HV.

The AlTiN coating is suitable for rough milling operations and is available in black color. High temperature resistance up to 800 degrees, Victoria hardness up to 3500HV

APSCT (Bronze) coating is suitable for milling stainless steel and steel workpieces. The coating has a copper-gold color. The friction coefficient is 0.4, the Victoria hardness is 4000HV, and it can cut 60-degree quenched materials.CrN coating is suitable for processing materials that are easy to stick to chips, such as copper and aluminum. The coating is silver. The friction coefficient is 0.3 and it has the characteristics of non-stick flakes.

The above coatings are commonly used coatings selected by OBT for customers. In response to customers' special requirements, Knife Father has developed special coatings for high-gloss knives, special coatings for high-temperature alloys, etc.
